Founded in 2003, Europe External Policy Advisors (EEPA) is a Brussels-based centre of expertise on the EU’s external policies. Its founding director is Prof. Mirjam van Reisen. EEPA works on a wide variety of subjects relating to the EU’s external policies, including legal frameworks, the annual budget and programming. Its current main focus is on human trafficking and smuggling, particularly in the Horn of Africa, and support of refugees from this region.
It also works on specific policy areas such as children’s rights, gender equality and HIV/AIDS. EEPA conducts lobbying and advocacy, does research and analysis, organises conferences and works on information dissemination, curriculum development and content management.
Prof. dr. Mirjam van Reisen
Prof. Mirjam van Reisen, Ph.D., is the founding director of Europe External Policy Advisors and the Secretary General of Europe External Programme with Africa. She has 20 years experience working both in and alongside European Commission institutions. Mirjam van Reisen is Professor Computing for Society at Leiden Centre for Data Science, at the University of Leiden and Professor International Relations, Innovation and Care at Tilburg University.
Mirjam van Reisen is a member of the Dutch Advisory Council on International Affairs and Chair of the Development Assistance Committee.
She is a member of the Board of Philips Foundation, the Dutch Development Organisations and Transnational Institute.
She received the Golden Image Award in 2012 by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
