Eritrea is a young country with a long historic struggle for independence gained in 1993. Despite its autonomy, the present-day Eritrea suffers from one of the hardest and worst dictatorships in the entire world.
Dr. Gerard Prunier explains the complicated reasons for this difficult situation in the country at ASMEA conference in 2010. He examines the events during the struggles for independence, the Eritrean People's Liberation Front actions, the President of State Isaias Afewerki governance.
The discussion shows the violent and difficult life of the Eritreans and the lack of any human rights of which the population suffers. Dr. Prunier gives a very interesting overview to analyse that, considering the situation as a “completely centralized dictatorship” which has reduced a large part of the Eritrean people to national slavery.
