Zimbabwean opposition speaks at the European Parliament
Brussels, 16/07/08: The leading opposition party's, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), European representative, Hebson Makuvise, was in Brussels to appear in front of the MEPs in the Development Committee in the European Parliament on 15 July. His message to Europe was that the support of the international community is very valued - especially the EU’s – and particularly the support given to Zimbabweans in their creation of the rule of law in the country. He called for a permanent representative of the UN and African Union to be installed in Harare, in order for them to assist in the mediation process. On 10 July, MEPs adopted a resolution calling for tighter sanctions against Harare, including an arms embargo and the freezing of assets held by the leadership.
