Secretary-general of CIDSE (international alliance of Catholic development agencies) Bernd Nilles calles the EU to make economic development more pro-poor and sustainable.
"What is the value of poverty reduction as a primary objective of EU development co-operation policy if, in practice, the well-being of the world's poorest people is subject to EU interests in other policy areas?", he argues.
Mr. Nilles also criticised the European commissioner for development - Andris Piebalgs for the way he uses the notion of “inclusive growth”, which he argues, involves a lot of negative impacts for developing countries.
