Brussels, 29/05/07: The final report of the Alliance2015 expert meeting on the contribution of general budget support (GBS) to social sectors has been published. The meeting, which was facilitated by EEPA, brought together a wide range of development actors, including the European Commission, representatives of EU Member States, the OECD/DAC Secretariat and various NGOs.
The meeting examined both the role of GBS as an aid modality and the complexity of measuring its actual contribution to development goals. Despite the broad spectrum of views surrounding this subject, the meeting highlighted a widespread agreement that GBS is becoming an increasingly important means of delivering European development assistance and that it is, therefore, necessary to ensure that it fully contributes to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
