First wave of Diplomatic Service appointments to be announced this week

Catherine Ashton, the High Representative of EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, announced that the first wave of new appointments for the diplomatic service is nearly finished. Around 30 appointments to the EU delegations will be announced later this week. However, there has been criticism in regard to the representation of the new member states as well as concerning an adequate gender representation within the service. A second wave of appointments is likely to follow later this autumn.
