Brussels, 17 October 2006: The External Relations Council confirmed its political agreement on the new Development Cooperation Instrument (DCI) during its meeting in Brussels yesterday. It is expected that Council will formally adopt the DCI in the coming days.
The dossier will now return to the European Parliament for a second reading which is scheduled to start with a discussion in the next meeting of the Committee on Development on Monday 6 November. It is envisaged that Parliament will hold its second reading vote during its December plenary session (11 - 14 December) in Strasbourg.
