Article inspired by Brussels conference on cervical cancer wins CNN award

CNN%20awardBrussels, 29/08/08: Bamuturaki Musinguzi, a Ugandan journalist, recently won the MSD Health & Medical Award at the CNN/MultiChoice African Journalist Awards 2008.

His winning story, Silent Killer - the devastating effect of cervical cancer on women in Africa, published in The East African newspaper on 5 November 2007, was inspired by the International Conference on the Fight Against Cervical Cancer held in Brussels in September 2007.

The conference was convened by the European Commission and the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), hosted by the Belgian Government and organised by EEPA.

Bamuturaki Musinguzi’s article told the story of a Ugandan woman who after her struggle with the disease went on to form the Women’s Awareness Against Cervical Cancer (WAACC) network, which now has 26 members in Uganda.
