Brussels, 13/09/07: A delegation of human rights defenders from Indonesia has been in Brussels this week to lobby the EU for continued support for their campaign to seek justice in the Munir murder case.
During their two day visit, the delegation, which consisted of Suciwati Munir (widow of the late Munir Said Thalib), Usman Hamid (Director of KontraS) and Asmara Nababan (Executive Director of Demos and Vice-chair of the Presidential Fact-finding Team into the death of Munir), met with officials from both the European Commission and the Council of the EU as well as MEPs and representatives of Brussels-based human rights organisations.
The delegation was invited to Brussels and The Netherlands by ICCO and Amnesty International (Netherlands) on the occasion of the third anniversary of the murder of leading Indonesian human rights activist Munir Said Thalib. Munir who is best known as the founder of the human rights organisation KontraS was poisoned in September 2004 on a flight from Indonesia to The Netherlands.
On Thursday 13 September, the delegation will deliver the inaugural Munir Memorial Lecture at the University of Utrecht.
