On January 8 and 9, CDRiE’s second congress was concluded in London with a public seminar in which an invited key-note speaker, Professor Dr. Mirjam van Reisen, Director of Europe External Policy Advisors presented a paper on the role of civil society in democratic change and transformation. This was attended by individual members of the Eritrean community in the UK and representatives of Eritrean civil society and political organisations.

This was followed by presentations from representatives of “Initiative of Change” on conflict resolution and management.
CDRiE’s chairman, Mr. Suleiman Hussein, presented a paper on the role of civil society in Eritrea in a historical perspective. He also reported on the main activities undertaken by CDRiE since its last founding congress in January 2009.
