Between the 9th and the 11th of December 2010, Eritrean Citizens for Peace (ECfP) organized the Horn of Africa Peace Conference in Atlanta, Georgia (USA).
The Horn of Africa is a very unstable area threatened by regional conflicts. The aim of the conference, “run by Africans”, was to discuss how to launch a peace movement in the region that involves both the citizens living in the Horn and the members of the Diaspora.
Prof van Reisen took part in this event along with over 60 intellectuals, professors and civil activists from Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan, and Somalia.
After two days of presentations and debates the participants set up a regional peace initiative: Horn of Africa Peace Engagement (HOPE).
