Following anti-government demonstrations in Syria during on the 27th of August, Syrian security forces opened fire on protesters and caused many casualties. EU High Representative Catherine Ashton expressed her concern about Syria: “The attack against the alRifai mosque in the Kfar Sousseh district of Damascus on 27 August early morning, during the most holy night of Ramadan, is yet another illustration of the reckless and indiscriminate violence by the Syrian security. Ms Ashton depicted the event as “Barbarism and a disregard of human rights”.
