In the context of the EU-South Africa Summit that took place in Brussels this Tuesday, South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma called upon the EU to lift its sanctions against Zimbabwe. On Wednesday, President Zuma held talks with Members of the European Parliament’s Development and Foreign Affairs Committees as well as with EP President Jerzy Buzek. During these talks, Zuma urged the EU once again to end sanctions imposed on individual Zimbabwean politicians, such as President Robert Mugabe, as these only lead to a further aggravation of the political problems. On Tuesday, European Union president Herman Van Rompuy said the bloc was ready to take a fresh look at the measures against Zimbabwe. "In case of positive developments in Zimbabwe we'd be ready to look at fresh measures," said Van Rompuy.
