In a meeting of the G77 (plus China) last week on the fringes of the UN General Assembly, Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon stated the importance of these countries’ participation in attaining the Millennium Development Goals by 2015. He mentioned the need to address the problems faced by the young generation, which, when it finds itself with limited opportunities, can become a destabilising force. Rather, young people’s energy should be channelled into a force for positive change.
