Brussels, 04/09/08: The latest 2015-Watch report was officially launched at an informal parliamentary hearing on Tuesday 16 September.
The report was presented by Alliance2015 President, Vagn Berthelsen, and the Director- General of EuropeAid Cooperation Office, Koos Richelle, gave a response on behalf of the European Commission. The interventions were followed by a lively debate involving MEPs, development counsellors from the EU member States permanent representations as well as NGOs.
The hearing was hosted by Gay Mitchell MEP together with the European NGO partnership Alliance2015.
The 2015-Watch series, which is produced by EEPA, monitors the EU’s contribution to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
This year’s 2015-Watch report investigates whether the European Commission has translated its rhetorical commitment to poverty eradication into tangible results. It finds a lack of results on the MDGs, limited democratic control over aid programmes and inade
quate attention to civil society's role in holding governments to account.
