Secretary Clinton Honors TIP Hero Sister Aziza For Her Fight Against Human Trafficking in Sinai

Washington, DC - On Tuesday, June 19, United States Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton unveiled the 2012 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report. This annual report assesses the status of the fight against modern slavery and human trafficking in 186 countries and territories. During the ceremony, ten individuals were honored for their efforts to struggle against trafficking in persons and made “TIP Heroes” by Secretary Clinton.
Among them, Azezet Habtezghi Kidane, also known as Sister Aziza, a nurse for the NGO Physicians for Human Rights-Israel (PHR-I) was distinguished by Ambassador Luis CdeBaca from the Office To Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons. He praised the Eritrean nun “for her compassion and courage in bringing attention to the suffering of the human trafficking victims in the Sinai and her groundbreaking projects that identify these abuses”.
The report rewards her work with Physicians for Human Rights-Israel that contributed to promoting awareness on the situation in Sinai, Egypt where “men, women and children are kidnapped, repeatedly raped, or subjected to forced labor and sexual servitude in addition to being tortured”.
