Nigeria benefits from the largest allocation under the European Development Fund (EDF) with an indicative amount of €677 million for the period 2008-13. The indicative amount for Ghana is €373.6m.

 

The European Commission has allocated an additional €1 billion for water and sanitation, maternal health, hunger and child mortality as a part of Millennium Development Goals. It was announced by the Development Commissioner Andris Piebalgs during a round table on Nutrition at the UN General Assembly.

 

International Co-operation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva is visiting the US from 21-25 September for high-level meetings and to promote dialogue on the urgent need to build disaster resilience.

 

The European Commission has allocated €5 million in response to the urgent humanitarian needs of Bangladesh, which has been struck by severe monsoon floods.

 

The European Parliament has expressed concern over the absence of human-rights policy in three countries, Belarus, Sudan and Eritrea.
