Senator Sabine de Bethune on the EP Zimbabwe hearing

debSenator Sabine de Bethune took a stand on the Zimbabwe hearing held in the European Parliament on 6 October 2010. She stated that the Belgian Presidency was giving priority to the UNSCR 1325. By the end of the year, the EU may present indicators that have been created to control and assess the mechanisms at stake. However, Senator de Bethune also acknowledged the gaps between the targets set in the many reports and assessment papers and the real action taken on the ground.

On Tuesday 26 October, the Security Council "encourages Member States to take into account the set of indicators contained in the Annex of the Report of the Secretary-General on Women and Peace and Security, as appropriate, in implementing Security Council resolution 1325 (2000) and subsequent resolutions on women and peace and security".

According to the Report of the Secretary-General, indicators are developed in four main thematic areas:

-Prevention
-Participation
-Protection
-Recovery
