On 9 September, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium Steven Vanackere co-organised a European Union High-level Conference in order to celebrate the 10th years of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security. Notwithstanding the importance of the UN Resolution, that for the first time highlighted the importance of involving women in conflict prevention, international security and peace operations, “this commitment has not yet been fulfilled” as HR Ashton said. Minister Vanackere asked for more effective legal instruments for the protection of woman against violence and underlined that Belgium together with other countries adopted a national Action Plan to implement the UN Resolutions under national legislation.
