Michelle Bachelet just announced head of UN women

BacheletAfter being the first female president of Chile in 2006, Michelle Bachelet will head the new U.N. Women agency. This new agency merges four U.N. gender entities into a single one in order to promote in a more efficient way the interest of women and girls across the world. The U.N. Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, is confident “that under her strong leadership we can improve the lives of millions women and girls throughout the world." The appointment of the former Chilean president has also been warmly welcomed by the Vice President of the Commission and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton. Ms. Asthon states that “Ms. Bachelet’s personal qualities, as well as her years of political experience will ensure that UN Women is provided with a strong and visionary leadership form the very earliest stages of its existence." The U.N. Women agency should be fully operational in January  next year.
