The report “The World’s Women 2010: Trends and Statistics” is the fifth edition of “The World’s Women”. The report has been produced by the U.N. Statistics Division (UNSD) every five years since 1995 in order to assess whether the Beijing Declaration’s goal (“the goals of equality, development and peace for all women everywhere in the interest of humanity”) are being achieved. The fifth edition was published to coincide with the first-ever World’s Statistics Day, 20.10.2010. It highlights eight key areas: population and families, health, education, work, power and decision-making, violence against women, environment, and poverty. Analysis is based mainly on statistics from international and national sources. The World’s Women 2010 illustrates the successes and shortcomings that have been made in progress towards gender equality.
