Following a statement by the Council and the European Commission on the 10th anniversary of UN Security Council resolution 1325, on Women, Peace and Security; a group of MEPs have decided to wind up this weeks debate with a resolution during the plenary session of the European Parliament. On behalf of the Green/EFA group, 19 Members of the European Parliament have stressed the need to consider the resolution 1325 which is "the first to address the disproportionate and unique impact of armed conflict on women and to link women's experiences of conflict to the maintenance of international peace and security”, as a priority for the Union.
Through this motion of Resolution, the group of MEPs emphasised that the “EU has adopted a series of important documents on how to implement UNSCR 1820 and 1325, but has only shown very limited interest in putting these guidelines into practice in a systematic and coherent way”. The motions for resolutions shall be put to the vote Thursday 25 November.
