Brussels, 14/11/07: The EU and UNSCR 1325 on Women, Peace and Security was the topic of a conference which was held in Brussels on 6 and 7 November 2007.
The conference saw an impressive gathering of women from all over the world, all present to discuss the effective implementation of UNSCR 1325 with each other and with EU policymakers. Representatives from grassroots organisations in various countries, including Afghanistan, Colombia, Sudan, Nepal and DRC, met to exchange experiences and knowledge derived from working on women’s security issues in conflict and post-conflict situations.
The meeting of local experiences and local knowledge holders was highly informative for all participants. The Liberian experience, as relayed by Minister Vabah Gayflor, was further a tremendous source of inspiration and information.
The conference ended with clearly stated commitments to strengthen the implementation of UNSCR 1325 - on behalf of EU policymakers, civil society representatives from the North and civil society representatives from the South.
