European Churches should urge the European Union and the United Nations to help Eritrean refugees. A new flow of refugees from this country looms. Dutch media outlet ‘Reformatorisch Dagblad’ reports.
A representative from Europe External Policy Advisors (EEPA) stated this on Tuesday at the beginning of a three-day conference of European Churches about refugees (14-16 June).
The Conference was organised by the World Council of Churches (WCC), the Conference of European Churches (CEC), Churches’ Commission for Migrants in Europe (CCME) and the Protestant Church in the Netherlands (PKN). The theme of the conference was “have no fear”.
Representatives from all over Europe were present to think about the impact of refugees in Europe and the answer of the European Churches to the refugee flows. On Wednesday, a commemoration service was held in Amsterdam for the thousands of refugees who have died at the borders of Europe.
