FAIR Data Specialist

This position is part of a project focused on implementing interoperable secure datapods for refugee data. These datapods are designed to enable easier sharing of information and data while ensuring data privacy, ownership, and autonomy. These FAIR Secure Refugee Datapods aim to strengthen refugees’ rights to anonymously provide and store information, improve rapid responses to human rights abuses, whilst enabling the reuse of sensitive data from humanitarian and refugee organisations.

Responsibilities

      • Design, develop, and maintain FAIR-compliant data-sharing tools and platforms tailored for humanitarian contexts.

      • Implement best practices for data management and ensure tools are user-friendly for diverse stakeholders.

      • Provide training and support to humanitarian staff on the use of data tools and the importance of FAIR data principles.

      • Develop user manuals, documentation, and training materials to facilitate effective tool usage.

    Requirements

        • A degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Management, or a related field.

        • Demonstrated experience in implementing FAIR data principles and practices in previous roles.

        • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, R, Java) and experience with data management tools and platforms (e.g., SQL, NoSQL databases, data visualisation tools).

        • Familiarity with data standards and protocols (e.g., RDF, JSON-LD, schema.org) relevant to data sharing.

      Working conditions

          • The contractor will primarily work in a remote or hybrid setting, with the option for on-site work at partner organisations or field locations as needed.

          • Travel expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with organisational policies.

          • The contractor will have access to technical support and resources to assist with the implementation of FAIR data tools and practices, including documentation, training materials, and expert consultations.

          • This is a contract position with an expected duration of 1 year, with the possibility of extension based on project needs and performance.

        Contract: FAIR data training specialists

        1. Introduction

        EEPA is seeking proposals from qualified FAIR data specialists to certify FAIR data steward trainers, assist in training for FAIR data management for humanitarian organisations, and provide technical expertise and support for the organisation of training-related activities. The selected specialist will also help check and assess training materials and provide advice on setting up tools within the organisations.

        2. Scope of Work

        The FAIR data specialist will be responsible for the following tasks:


        Certification of FAIR Data Steward Trainers:

        • Develop and conduct certification programme for FAIR data steward trainers.
        • Evaluate the competency of trainers in FAIR data management principles and practices.

        Assistance in FAIR data management Training:

        • Collaborate with certified trainers to deliver training sessions on FAIR data management for humanitarian organisations.
        • Provide technical expertise and support during the training sessions.

        Organisation and assessment of Training-Related Activities:

        • Review and assess training materials to ensure they meet FAIR data management standards.
        • Provide feedback and recommendations for improvement.

        Advisory Services:

                • Offer advice to trainers and organisations on the implementation of FAIR data management tools and practices.
                • Provide guidance on setting up and maintaining FAIR data management systems within organisations.

                3. Qualifications and Experience

                The FAIR data specialist should have the following qualifications and experience:

                      • A degree in data science, information science, or a related field.

                  1. Experience:
                      • Proven experience in FAIR data management principles and practices.

                      • Experience in training and certification programs.

                  1. Skills:
                      • Strong technical expertise in data management tools and technologies.

                      • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

                      • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
